It’s seven fifteen
And Richard and Betty are waking up soon
The dog’s on the bed
The papers unread
The Sun fades the Moon
No one is waiting
Or tapping their foot
Richard and Betty are sleeping
And the world doesn’t look
It’s Friday
They both strip the bed
Laundry day of the week
Taking it slow
The wind softly blows
Through the sweet smelling sheets
No one is waiting
Rich takes her hand
And he spins Betty carefully
The slowest slow dance
And he says
I think we hacked it
Maybe we cracked it
No, there’s no where that I’d rather be
My wife is a beauty
My life is a doozy
I’ve been smiling since seventy-three
Thank God

They go to the diner
And Betty picks salad
To leave room for pie
Her face lights up as she chews
And there’s no better view
For Richard tonight

The kids left ten years ago
Diner Day is the best day of the week
Betty says
