It's you Mr. and Mrs. America It's you who must answer for your crimes It's you who put guns in the hands of murderers Are you deaf to the screams of the dying A peasant village in the once peaceful mountains Goes up in flames the children cry out in pain See their mothers raped and brutally tortured Nicaragua reaps the Yankee harvest of shame Don't cry for Nicaragua Cry for what we've become A nation of the criminally stupid Blind to what our government's done Don't cry for Nicaragua Nicaragua will be free one day But I shudder when I think of the bloody price My own country still has to pay Ronald Reagan smiles as he kills You shrug and look the other way He must know what he's doing you figure As you hand over hald of your pay Don't you care what they do with your money How many children it murders every day Aren't you ashamed of your country Don't you understand When I say Don't cry for Nicaragua Cry for what we've become The enemy of freedom and justice Enforced at the point of a gun Don't cry for Nicaragua Nicaragua will be free one day But I wonder how long that will still be true Back here in the USA
