Now behold, my name is Mormon
Keeper of the Holy Word
And I make a sacred record
Of the things I've seen and heard
All my days were filled with sorrow
Yet I wrote by God's command
Standing as an idle witness
Of the evil in the land
Grievous scenes of thieves and robbers
Sorceries and magic art
Wickedness, abominations
Dwelt in every hardened heart
Awful scenes of blood and carnage
Have been laid before mine eyes
They were once a righteous people
I had loved them, and I cried
I had loved them, and I cried
Oh ye fair ones of my people
How could ye reject the Lord?
Now my heart is filled with sorrow
For those fallen by the sword
Oh ye fair ones, sons and daughters
Fathers, mothers, husbands, wives
Now my soul is rent with anguish
And I mourn your fallen lives
Now I speak to all who follow
May your faith in Christ increase
May the hope of God's great glory
Lift you up and give you peace
Come unto your loving shepherd
Jesus, Savior of mankind
May the hope of life eternal
Rest forever in your mind
